Customer Guide
The first decision before installing any blind. This determines your measurement approach and the final look.
Blind fits inside the window recess for a clean, built-in look.
Applies to most roller, zebra, and venetian blind systems. Total time: approximately 40 minutes.
You'll need: a power drill, wall plugs (Rawl plugs), a spirit level, measuring tape, pencil, and a screwdriver. Most brackets are supplied with the blind — check your package.
Hold the bracket against the wall (or inside recess) at your desired position. Use a pencil to mark the screw holes. For a standard blind, you'll have two end brackets and one or two centre supports depending on width.
Drill pilot holes at your marks. For masonry or brick walls, insert wall plugs first. Screw brackets firmly in place — they should not wobble at all. For wooden frames, self-tapping screws may be sufficient.
Clip or slide the blind headrail into the fixed brackets. Most systems click into place — you should hear or feel a positive lock. For roller blinds, ensure the spring mechanism side goes on the correct bracket (usually marked).
Lower and raise the blind several times to test smooth operation. Check that it sits level when fully lowered. For chain-operated blinds, ensure the chain runs freely and is not kinked. For motorised blinds, set the upper and lower limits per the controller instructions.
If your blind has a chain or cord, fix the safety cleat or tensioner to the wall within easy adult reach but well out of a child's reach. Wrap the chain when not in use. This is a legal safety requirement, not optional.
Things customers often ask before or during installation.
Most wall types work — plasterboard, brick, masonry, or timber frames. The fixings and technique differ slightly for each. If unsure, bring a sample to our showroom and we'll advise.
For lightweight blinds, adhesive-mounted brackets are available. These work best on smooth, non-porous surfaces and for blinds under 1.5kg. Not recommended for long-term or permanent installations.
As a general rule, blinds over 1200mm wide require at least one centre support bracket. Wide PVC or wooden blinds may need two. This is specified in your blind's documentation.
Almost always a levelling issue with one bracket being fractionally higher than the other. Loosen the higher bracket, adjust down by 2–3mm, and recheck with a spirit level.
